Richard Farina

Biography

Richard joined Newman in August 2023 as a Lecturer in Professional Policing. Formerly an operational police sergeant with 30 years’ service – including 17 years as a specialised firearms trainer, he was responsible for the delivery of national firearms courses, firearms training, assessment and quality assurance. He sat on numerous College of Policing (CoP) national working groups, contributing to the colleges policing curriculums. He was responsible for design, planning and delivering of ‘train the trainer’ courses, delivering to firearms officers from most UK police forces and beyond, including the Channel Islands, the Falkland and Gibraltar. He designed the assessment standards in the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum of which every firearms instructor is assessed against twice yearly. Richard was also an accredited tactical advisor and command trainer, teaching officers of all ranks in decision making processes based upon threat and risk.
