Birmingham Newman University Chaplaincy exists to enable all at Newman to explore and experience “Life to the Full” (Jn 10:10). The Chaplaincy is open and welcoming to all faiths and is committed to ensuring that all are free to worship. Students and staff are welcome to join in the activities of the Chaplaincy, including services, retreats and social activities.

Our Chaplaincy team includes Margaret Holland (University Chaplain), Imam Bilal Asif (Muslim Chaplain) and Fr David Smolira SJ (Catholic Priest). The team works alongside students and staff, providing support – both practical and spiritual, encouragement and assistance, as well as organising and leading prayer and worship and God knows what else! We seek to offer a hospitable and safe space that is judgement free and accessible by all members of the Newman community.

With St Mary’s Chapel, the adjoining Blessed Sacrament Chapel, a Multi-faith Prayer room with wash facilities, the Aquinas Room for gatherings and a Chaplaincy office we have many spaces for you to make use of and engage with. Watch this video to find out more.

Mass is celebrated in St Mary’s Chapel on Mondays and Wednesdays (8.20am) in semester time.

The Chaplaincy supports the Christian Union, and Newman Islamic Society who meet regularly.  For more information please contact Margaret or Bilal
