criminology lecture

Welcome to Criminology BA (Hons) at Birmingham Newman University.

You are about to embark on an exciting journey to explore crime and the criminal justice system from a critical and socially just perspective. Our diverse learning community is eager to have you join us as we seek to understand the full range of crimes and social harms that impact our society.

From day one, you will be a valued member of our academic community. Our program fosters a collaborative environment where you can engage in thoughtful discussions, challenging debates, and meaningful interactions with peers and faculty. Our courses encourage you to think critically about various aspects of criminology, exploring questions like whether crime is the product of social factors or individual psychology, if the law is enforced equally, the purpose of punishment and prisons, and how best to respond to youth violence.

Learning extends beyond the classroom with field trips to courts, and talks by guest speakers, including ex-prisoners, police and prison staff, magistrates, campaigners. We are excited to see the unique perspectives and insights you will bring to our program. Together, we will explore the complexities of crime and justice, striving for a more just and equitable society.
