Real People. Real Stories
The student experience is central to all that we do at Birmingham Newman University and tutors and students work closely as partners in the learning journey.
We would like to introduce you to some of our wonderful students who are sharing a little about themselves and their experiences studying our courses.
Petiya, Studies in Primary Education
Hi, my name is Petiya and I’m a second-year student in Studies in Primary Education.
My dream, once I’ve graduated, is to relocate to Cornwall and become a primary school teacher. Since starting the course, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to explore ways we can make teaching innovative and creative for children in the classroom.
The lecturers have enabled me and other students to confidently question the status quo and support me on my academic journey to achieve my full potential
Terry Leigh Mann, Primary Education and SEND
Hello I’m Terry Leigh Mann, a first year Primary Education and SEND student.
The prospect of university scared me no end. I have generalised anxiety disorder so, I was petrified to say the least; my anxiety was all over the place.
You don’t know what to expect and constant questions plague your mind about whether you’ll fit in. I applied to Birmingham Newman because I missed two years of school and it was naturally assumed I wouldn’t do well academically. I was determined to prove them wrong. And I did. I chose a fantastic university. This course has taught me so much!
