English Literature

Welcome to Birmingham Newman University’s English degree.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Monday 15 September for your induction day. This is a chance to get your bearings, meet the tutors, and get a sense of what lies ahead.

You’ll get a feel for how we approach reading, writing, and thinking in this subject. It’s also a chance to meet your peers, begin building a sense of belonging, and get to know the people you’ll be learning alongside.

We’re glad you’re here – let’s begin.

HeadStart – Monday 1 to Friday 5 September 2025

Headstart is a programme aimed at introducing our new students to University life. We understand that our students come from all walks of life and have personal and individual aspirations for taking this important step in their journey.

This programme is an opportunity to:

  • Talk to staff before starting university

  • Understand and navigate the campus
  • Find out about the support available
  • Start getting comfortable with university life
