What is Headstart?

At Newman, we get to know your story and support you every step of the way. With our free Headstart mini-course you can get your story started a week before your undergraduate course begins. It’s a flexible way to adapt to university life and get the most out of your studies.

Headstart and Headsup + Initial interest registration 2023-24

At Newman we’re experts in supporting students who are new to university:

1. 1st in England and Wales for first-generation students entering higher education (Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023)
2. 5th in the UK for student support (WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2023)

You’ll get a headstart in:

1. How your university course works
2. Finding your way around Newman’s campus
3. Thinking about what you want from your studies
4. Developing the skills you need to study successfully at university
5. Connecting with other students in the same position as you
6. Balancing your studies with other responsibilities
7. Finding support to make the most of uni life

Headstart is the week before Welcome Week – within school hours, with sessions on campus and online. You can sign up as soon as you’ve confirmed Newman University as your firm or insurance choice with UCAS. It’s flexible too – you can join us for as much of the mini-course as you have time for.

1. New undergraduates (level 4) can join us for up to four days, or even just one.
2. Top-up students (level 6) can join our Headsup+ day on 14 September 2023.
