Timetable

Teaching is scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays.

First block teaching

  • 22 January to 13 February 2026
  • 9am to 11am and 12pm to 2pm

Second block of teaching

  • 5 to 27 March 2026
  • 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm

Full details of your individual academic timetable will be available via your university email calendar after you have completed online enrolment and set up your student login.

Induction day

At Birmingham Newman University, induction is an ongoing process focused on building the skills and qualities that drive success. From the start, our programme team takes time to understand your goals and works with you to provide tailored support. Our induction programme offers opportunities for professional reflection, career planning, and development of effective study strategies. Throughout your studies, you’ll benefit from dedicated guidance from both our teaching team and professional services.   

Your induction will include an introduction to your programme, your teaching team, and the facilities and professional services which will support you throughout your studies.

  • Thursday 15 January, 10am to 12pm (Room CH116), and;
  • BEM720 module 1pm to 3pm (Room: TBC)

International students

International students will be required to enrol in-person as part of the event on Thursday 15 January.

IMPORTANT: Please bring your photo ID with you to complete the ID verification check for Student Finance confirmation.

Pre-arrival activities

Whilst there is no set pre-arrival reading, it is a good idea to begin forming habits to be up to date with current affairs in business and society on a global scale.

The business world is influenced, and can influence, the world around us, and understanding the broader context of business can help us to understand the impact we can have as business leaders.

Teaching team

Dr Elizabeth Heyworth-Thomas

Dr Elizabeth Heyworth-Thomas is a Principal Lecturer in Business Management. Her research and teaching expertise include entrepreneurship, marketing, sociology, and policy. Liz has industry experience which she brings into her research-informed teaching, and has informed policy documents for the Government, and education organisations.

Dr. Swati Chattopadhyay

Dr. Swati Chattopadhyay is a Lecturer in Business at Birmingham Newman University. Her research and teaching expertise include Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Quantitative Research Methods. Swati’s research in these areas has contributed to international journals, making her teaching research-informed on a global scale.

Module delivery

Modules on the MBA programme are taught in 4-week blocks throughout the year, with dedicated time for assessment support.

For our January starters, you will begin your programme by studying Team and Talent Management, where you will gain insight of how to optimise organisational performance through outstanding team leadership and people management.

You will explore models for the management of change and the knowledge, skills and credibility needed to be an effective champion of change.
