Dr. Adnan N. Qureshi received his Ph.D. from the Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC), University of Bedfordshire, UK. His research areas include bio-medical image and signal processing, computer vision, machine learning, optimization and autonomous systems. He is Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer of Computer Science.
Dr. Vincent HallDr. Vincent Hall is currently working as Lecturer in Computer Science. He is an expert in Data Science and Machine Learning with a first UG masters degree in Physics and Astronomy (Leeds). His MSc was in the Physical Sciences – Life Sciences boundary (Warwick). His PhD entailed creating a Machine Learning method to help Chemists by estimating the structures of proteins with UV light scans. The latest version of this technology, now updated and added to by others, is licenced by Warwick Innovation to Pharma companies, and free for academic use.
Dr. James WilliamsDr. James Williams is a Lecturer in Computer Science at Birmingham Newman University, where he delivers modules across the software development and cyber security curriculum. His academic and professional interests centre on the representation and visualization of fuzzy, place-based ‘platial’ data within geospatial computing, with a growing focus on the application of large language models in this space. James also organises initiatives in student engagement, including events and hackathons, while actively collaborating with industry and local communities.
3 hours of contact time per 20 credit module, a total of 9 contact hours per week.
Your transition into the world of Computer Science begins with a strong suite of modules entailing software development, databases and web development.
The second semester will introduce the concepts of networking, artificial intelligence & data science and prepare you with requisite research and project management skills which are imperative to analyse real-world problems and design effective solutions using contemporary tools and technologies.

HeadStart – Monday 1 to Friday 5 September 2025
Headstart is a programme aimed at introducing our new students to University life. We understand that our students come from all walks of life and have personal and individual aspirations for taking this important step in their journey.
This programme is an opportunity to:

- Make a badge with our Environmental Officer, download the OurNewman app to spin the wheel and win a prize, and join the Library for Q&A activities and their Prize Every Time Lucky Dip.
- Advice & Wellbeing will be offering stress tests, sound therapy, and an Affirmation Station, while E-Learning invites you to take their “Who You Gonna Call?” quiz for a prize draw entry.
- Try the Sport team’s exercise bike challenge and visit the Chaplaincy to choose the “word of the day” and share some positivity.
